Western WA Shop Hop Tote Class - Dory
This tote is so easy and versatile, you can't have enough of them! You will easily finish this tote in class; in fact, if you're prepared, make two!
The general size of this bag is 18" x 20," but you can literally make it any size. This size is easy for carrying that quilt top and back to the longarmer, carrying groceries, carrying supplies to retreat--well, you get the idea. It's a super useful bag and would even make a great gift!
Pictured below is a tote made from a panel--choose your favorite part of the panel and use the leftover bits for your straps. So many options....

| Requirements: | Fabric: Main Fabric - 5/8 yard (outside of bag) Backing Fabric - 5/8 yard (muslin works fine as this will not show when finished) Lining Fabric - 1/2 yard Handle Fabric - 1/4 yard (not fat quarter) Batting - Crib-sized or use scraps to fit Notions: Sewing Machine in good working order, with manual 1/4" Quilting Foot Walking Foot (optional) Piecing Thread Top-Stitch Thread(Optional) Scissors Snips Pins or Clips Quilting Rulers (24" - 12" - 6" square) Seam Ripper Quilting Gloves (Optional) HOMEWORK Using the Main Fabric (outside of your bag), the backing fabric and batting, make a quilt sandwich and quilt as desired. After quilting, trim your "quilt" to 18" x 40" -- or you can choose to make it smaller or larger at this point. If you are using a panel, cut the section of the panel you wish to have on the outside of your bag and make a quilt sandwich and quilt as desired. Trim accordingly. Keep the outside pieces of your panel to use for the straps. Please come to class with this piece quilted and trimmed to the size you choose. |
